Using Bitcoin to make a contribution

#1

Hey it’s almost the end of the year and we want to let you guys know that Open Collective now accepts bitcoin as a contribution method for all collectives.

For the moment it only works with one-time contributions.

So, how does it work?

Let’s say you want to make a contribution to Vue.js, it is a progressive framework for building user interfaces. It is designed to be incrementally adoptable, with the ability to scale between just a library and a full-feature framework.

All you have to do is head to their Collective profile: https://opencollective.com/vuejs/donate (include the /donate to the URL of your collective to head directly to the donation page)

Once in you have to fill in your personal info and select the amount you want to contribute:

Below that you will be presented the Payment details option, click on it and select Bitcoin:

After clicking the bitcoin option you will be shown a QR code and a bitcoin address like this:

You can proceed and make a payment directly from this step, you will receive an email with the confirmation of the amount.

Note:
There is no need to connect a bitcoin wallet from the Collective’s end, Stripe immediately converts BTC to the collective’s currency.

Let us know what you think of this, comment below and share your thoughts!

This doesn’t seem to be live. I have someone who wants to make a bitcoin donation and can’t find it on the link above or https://opencollective.com/grow-iot

It’s fixed. Please note that this is only for one time donations and for collectives that are hosted on US based hosts (which is the case for https://opencollective.com/grow-iot)
